Greetings Outside J family! I'm so excited to discuss the summer internship I just started with Hoop Bus/Veniceball as both organizations align perfectly with Outside J., Inc. They are in partnership with each other to bring outdoor basketball opportunities to communities across the country.
BACKGROUND: For those of you who don't know, since 2019, Hoop Bus has been a nonprofit organization dedicated to using its basketball bus fleets to increase attendance, awareness and engagement at events. Recently they did a commercial to celebrate NBA's greatest 75 players in honor of the league's 75th anniversary. Since basketball isn't just local, but also international, they just launched a new fleet in the Philippines.
Started in 2006, Veniceball began as a community tournament on the courts of Venice Beach and has now become one of the most prominent summer leagues in the world.
INTERNSHIP DUTIES: With Hoop Bus, I am assigned tasks of finding talent, like college basketball players, for pop up events in cities across the country ( e.g. Phoenix & Washington, D.C. ). For the Veniceball organization, I help with the preparation of their league games.
Throughout the week, all of the interns meet with company individuals to go over what needs to be done for the weekend events. For example, we go over logistics tasks (registration , setting up tables/ tents). Essentially, we are in charge of making sure things run smoothly and are presented well to the public.
REFLECTION: So far, I have enjoyed meeting new interns who are also studying sports management. Also as I prepare my for next tournament, and grow my brand, I want to learn from the organizations on how they do their events on a high level, and manage their leagues. I want my next events to be more fun, engaging, and have a larger attendance.
I am so glad that I'm doing this internship. It's the perfect fit. I look forward to doing more amazing things with Hoop Bus/Veniceball this summer and in the future. Go Hoop!!!
